When there is no crowd to fill the stands, and no show to be performed. When there is no uniform to be admired, and no scoreboard to boast a winner. “It is just another unextraordinary day,” Our coach remarks.
I remember the first time I heard this statement. I thought to myself, “Unextraordinary? What part of the letters U-S-A are not extraordinary? What part of me pushing my limits of skill, strength, and exhaustion everyday isn’t astonishing?”As players sometimes do, we place any uncertain motivational coach comments in the back of our minds to be processed.
But then it hit me. Our mundane days that contain the same 3 trusty essentials: Our Team, our equipment, and the day’s potential, either drive us forward or keep us in the same position we were in yesterday. The days when physical limits are at their breaking point and motivation is running on fumes. The days when we are tempted by sameness, those are the seemingly unextraordinary days.
However, accomplishing the unextraordinary days place the extraordinary moments in reach. And our moment to be extraordinary is just around the corner.
